This restaurant chain employs hundreds of people to perform its daily operations. Most of them are young adults, due to the nature and the low wage rate of the job. As recent reports have indicated, in Western society, the abuse of drugs for recreational purposes is extremely high in the case of this age group. This fact automatically leads to the assumption that quite a few of this restaurant’s employees may be included in this national statistic. At a superficial glance at this assumption, there seems to be no need to explore the matter. As long as the employee performs at par at his or her job, there is no reason to interfere with what they choose to do in their personal life. It can even be labeled an ethical dilemma as to whether the employer should give this much attention to an employee’s personal life outside the job. However, if one chooses to explore the statistic that the reports have laid out, with more depth, there is more reason to explore the problem. As the reports go on to elaborate, this drug abuse has a major negative impact on the professional lives of these young adults too. The companies that they work for suffer major losses each year, due to the drug problem of these employees, as it causes delays, accidents, lower productivity, and expensive healthcare. The report estimates these losses to be around seventy five to a hundred billion dollars per year in the US. Considering these significantly huge figures, the directors of this company realize the importance of addressing the problem. They realize how relevant this issue could be to their own workforce, and how urgently it needs to be addressed. There is still the argument of whether it is fair to take on such a serious matter when it can be a very private matter for the employees. A casual drug abuser would not want their employers involved in such a matter, because not only would it they be in the danger of losing their jobs, but it would harm their reputation in society as well as for future employers. This major ethical dilemma would pose a problem for the employers wishing to take action against this possible drug problem. It would help, perhaps, to view this problem in the light of the ethical theory of utilitarianism. This theory preaches that the actions one takes should be those, which maximize the utility that can be derived from the action. Enforcers of this theory believe also, that one should always seek to maximize the benefit that their actions have on the whole of society, instead of just themselves. This is often a guiding principle for people who find themselves at a crossroad, and have to choose between an action that would seems right, and one that seems moral. In this case, it would be be neficial to view the problem at hand in the light of utilitarianism. It seems like the wrong thing to do to approach a group of employees and try to screen out the drug users from amongst them. Nevertheless, this action would be in the best interest of the employee, her coworkers, her family as well as the restaurant’s productivity. As this ethical theory states, one should always prefer the action which ‘brings about the greatest good for the greatest number’

Kidney and livers play an important role in excretion and water helps kidney and livers to function properly by carry away toxins from the human body. 2.2 Perspiration When we having a cold or fever we need more water to standardize our body temperature and water help us to maintain our body temperature (Dawkins Gibson, 2007). When our surrounding temperature is hot, our body will starting to sweat and by sweating we are actually getting rid of unhealthy toxic and waste materials in our body. Sweat itself contains of 99% water, so whenever we starting to sweat a lot we should start rehydrate too as it will lead to hydration if we didnt drink enough water. 2.3 Other bodily functions Water carries away waste, and helps to carry medicines to the proper places in the body. Water helps to cushion your babys ride when you are pregnant and also helps to prevent cramping fatigue during exercise (Dawkins Gibson, 2007). Water keep us away from dry skin and prevent headache (M. Woods, n.d). Water helps to improve physical performance (muscles are 73% water), improve the circulation (blood is 82% water), improve mental function (the brain is 72% water) (Hall, 2004). 2.4 Flushes toxins out of vital organs Water absorbs our bodys waste products and other toxic compounds which then leave the body through the urinary tract (Dr Moonlenburgh 2009). Metabolic wastes are also carried and excreted in a water medium. Drinking plenty of water is one good way to keep the kidneys and bladder in good health (Hall, 2004). If a person doesnt drink enough of water, it will effect the humans mental and emotional and then you will have less energy and hard to concentrate compare to your normally do and this symptom is called mild dehydration. 3.1 Constipation Studies shown that low level of chronic dehydration have increased the risk of constipation (and its potential effects, including hemorrhoids and diverticulosis) (Woods, n.d). Lack of water in our diet will cause constipation and stomach acid problems by drinking good amount of water will cure it. Experts said that if a person consume not enough amount of water it will cause indurate to the fasces and constipation problem occur. When we sweat extremely or diarrhea it will lead to dehydration and so by taking enough of fluids can prevent dehydration from happening. 3.3 Dried skin Without adequate water in the body, tissue can not be formed or repaired and so dried skin is formed. Dried skin occurs when our skin is lack of water and not oil, water hydrates our skin and helping the skin to stay young and healthy. Experts claims that human loses one to three quarts of water per day so we need to keep ourselves on track by drinking enough of water to prevent our skin suffer. 3.4 Reduce the risk of bladder cancer Insufficient of fluid intake would increase the risk of bladder, breast and colon cancer (Woods, n.d). When a person dehydrated , the person will have poor blood circulation and failing kidney function soon, as the longer the person dehydrated the risk of having this symptom will happened faster (Dawkins Gibson 2007). A group of doctors claimed that the risk of having a bladder cancer is increasing over the ten years and those men who drank a lot had lower risk of having the bladder cancer (Dr Whitaker, 2000). 4.0 Water habit Water is beneficial for us everyday but due to the polluted environment nowadays even the price of beer are cheaper than a plain water and this causes people around the world would rather drink beer than a plain and tasteless water. The recommended glass of water is eight glasses as our human body consists of 75% water and we need to rehydrate everyday. In fact, we can only survive for three days without drinking water. Water is not only important but it is the way to live a longer and better life. 4.1 Carry a bottle Habit of carry a bottle is not train by one day, it need a long period for a person to carry a bottle whenever the person go out, whether shop, walk or to an activity as Rome was not build in one day also. So those who want a good healthy lifestyle and prevent constipation and other cancer causes start carrying a bottle around with them all day. If you are a forgetful person use your hand phone alarm or the reminder system to help u out by every thirty minutes drink a glass of water. Setting a reminder the first weeks will not be as easy as Practice makes prefect so we have to remind our self to drink more water for a better life in future. 4.3 Exercise By the word exercise we will know that we will sweat a lot and that means we will lose a lot of water from our body and by exercising it can make us want to drink more water. Experts said that if we are going to exercise, drink the suitable amount of water first so our body wont be affected by having dehydration during our exercise period. 5.0 Types of water Water is perhaps the products that every consumer are using and consumer taking every types of water in a serious matter as we all want to use water that are free from bacteria and harm. Nowadays, nobody drinks from the home tap anymore, and for the good reasons. The quality of the domestic water supply is suspected, and often deficient and dirty. For those looking to enjoy a variety of waters, here is just a sampling of the many different types available (J. Rose, 2007). 5.1 Distilled water Distilled water is a type of water that has been purified. It is often used to clean fragile items, as it has no mineral deposits that could damage the delicate fibers. Distilled water should ideally be nothing but hydrogen and oxygen molecules, with a PH level of 7 and no additional gases, minerals or contaminants. (What is Distilled Water?, n.d). Distilled water helps flushes toxic substances out from our body and by drinking it our body will be healthier and better. But one of the disadvantage of distilled water is it doesnt consist any minerals in it this is because due to the process of distillation so it would just be a pure water. 5.2 Mineral water Mineral water is said that it consist the most mineral in its water and this type of water is the healthiest among all those water. But those minerals could be naturally or man made. Minerals help us throughout our life by maintaining a better life. Lack of mineral could fall sick or worse. In the 21st century everyone in earth are worried about their own health due to the environment pollution and mineral water nowadays make an important role. Due to the demand of mineral water increase it also increase the numbers of mineral water company too and there is where bottled water came up. Some said mineral water can prevent us from having cramp or joints pain. 5.3 Well water Spring water has many names but is more commonly know as well water. Natural spring water contains of some beneficial minerals that normal filtered water that doesnt have. But well water also can be contaminate and consist of microorganisms that we cant see using our naked eye, chemicals and so do the environment problem that happening nowadays so spring water consist of cons too. Some said that well water tastes much better and is more convenient than bottled water but some said well water are contaminated and its bad health due to the environment problem. 6.0 Conclusion In conclusion, 8 glasses of water a day will bring better life and a healthier lifestyle to a person. Consume more than 8 glasses of water a day will help our human body to flush toxins from the lymph system to body and avoid constipation. Furthermore, experts had said intake of more fluids will reduce the risk of having cancer and sickness. Lastly, water is the most important nutrient in our lives and it will lead us to a longer and better quality life. On the Entrapment and Incarceration of the Victorian Woman Essay

Thomas Blackburn describes the two Victorian poets, Robert Browning and Alfred, Lord Tennyson as being great contemporaries (47). As such it is apt that their works should muse upon and explore similar topics and themes. Their connection is especially evident in Browning’s â€Å"My Last Duchess† and Tennyson’s â€Å"The Lady of Shalott†. The themes of entrapment and incarceration feature heavily in both of these works. Specifically, it is the entrapment and incarceration of women which pervade their respective compositions. When taking into consideration the way in which women were viewed at this juncture in history- being nothing more than â€Å"beautiful objects† (Gilbert and Gubar 54), it is quite easy to see how the literary representations of the nineteenth century woman would be responses to such confines. While â€Å"My Last Duchess† can be looked upon as an investigation of the captor, represented by the Duke; â€Å"The Lady of Shalo tt† can be considered an exploration into the captive, represented by the Lady that gives the poem its title. Both poems are an analysis into the Victorian woman as an incarcerated and entrapped sub-culture of a predominately patriarchal society. It is no surprise then that the methods of which these fictional women take to escape comes at the cost of their lives. The doomed Duchess of Robert Browning’s dramatic monologue, â€Å"My Last Duchess† is the embodiment of the incarcerated woman taken to the eternal extreme. The setting for this poem is the Italy of the Middle Ages, a time when women had still less freedom than in the Victorian era. Dealing with Strangers in Strange Lands Essay

The book, A Land so Strange, tells of an expedition of 300 men, women, and enslaved Africans who set sail from Spain in 1528 under the leadership of Pà ¡nfilo de Narvà ¡ez with the dream of settling Florida. Yet, a hurricane, lost ships, navigational errors, leadership follies, and challenges from Indians well capable of holding off would-be European conquest added up to a colossal disaster. Expedition members ended up wandering along the Gulf Coast before taking to the water on handmade rafts which finally washed up on the Texas coast, in course of which their numbers rapidly diminished as they fell victim to drowning, dehydration, starvation, and cannibalism (by their fellow castaways). A mere four survivors-Cabeza de Vaca, Alonso del Castillo, Andrà ©s Dorantes, and an enslaved Moor known only as Estebanico remained. Throughout this reading, it will become quite clear that working with the Indians instead of against would have provided a more viable solution to the Spaniards survival predicament. Furthermore, the success of the Spanish in North American depended greatly on their relations with the natives. This will be seen through the embarrassing death of Narvaez and the success that Cabeza de Vaca experiences. Eventually, Cabeza and his crew begin to see the Indians as human beings and as a possible alliance in the harsh environment they are trying to conquer. The Spanish ideals of non-christians were very strong. Even the converts were criticized, â€Å"Such converts were euphemistically referred to as new christians, and were often the target of discrimination in an empire that had become unified on the basis of militant religiousity.†[1] Such an age of ego drove the kings to explore territory not only for riches and fame, but for the possibility of â€Å"spreading the good word†. During Cabeza de Vaca’s amazing journey, he went from the hunter to the hunted, from the giver to the begger, and from the fat to the starving. At one point, during a seemingly endless walk in a dessert, Narvaez notices a group of Indians. He is dying of thirst and barely has any food. However, he looks upon the Indians and says, â€Å"What poor and wretched creatures.†[2] Even at the lowest point, he still condemns the Indians instead of approaches and begs for some form of charity. Things got worse. He later gave up all hope of survival  and proclaimed, â€Å"It was no longer time for some men to rule over others, but that each one should do whatever seemed best to save his life.†[3] Narvaez died a painful death lost at sea on a raft carried by the tided. He wanted nothing to do with the Indians, even to the point of death. Such pain seemed to attract the leadership of false-superiority. Only at Cabeza de Vacas lowest point did he realize that the Indians could actually help him and the remaining survivors. He was shipwrecked on a small island with no food or drink. It is here where he stated the following after seeing its inhabitants, â€Å"Whether or not they were of great stature, our fear made them seem like giants.†[4] His fear was obviously overwhelming and he had no choice but to succumb to whatever treachery the Indians were to release. To the surprise of the castaways, the Indians brought food and drink to the survivors. They were astonished by the generosity of the Indians. The Indians eventually adopted and took care of them even through the toughest of seasons. Throughout the remainder of the story, Cabeza depended on the Indians for survival. He even went far enough to state, â€Å"These are the people most fit for war of all I have seen in the world.†[5] The Indians carried with them a great weight, for the stranded were quite useless when it comes to surviving in harsh conditions. Through persistence and persuasion, Cabeza eventually became a medicine man convinced he was sent by God to heal those in need. He worked his way up the ranks and finally came home to an astonished emperor. It is quite obvious that working with the Indians instead of against provided the best solution to the Spaniards issues. Narvaez chose a path of stubbornness and superiority while Cabeza de Vaca chose a path of harsh reality and acceptance. The Indians were taught at birth the laws of nature and how to overcome the most horrible of environmental circumstances, the Spanish came with little knowledge but a passion for fame and fortune. The following statement by Cabeza de Vaca sums it all up, â€Å"Together, Europeans and Native Americans could make the New World yield spiritual as well as material wealth† (218). In â€Å"Blaxicans† and Other Reinvented Americans,† Richard Rodriguez points out that America has become a place that is fully populated by immigrants from around the world. He asserts that there is no way to assign race names to citizens because everyone can be multiple races. According to Rodriguez, Americans create labels (e. g. Hispanic) in a ridiculous attempt to classify people in the simplest form; a plan doomed to fail. Rodriguez continues by describing his idea of â€Å"ethnicity,† which is ultimately based on the way people act and the things they value. The article describes the way in which all races are intertwined within the country, and within the world. The idea of â€Å"diversity† is also mentioned in the article when discussing the topic of interracial marriages.
